I am not surprised to read what you've said. A close friend of mine and her husband are struggling to support two young children up here on Long Island yet they keep sending money to her parents in North Carolina because they are broke.

Why are they broke? Because her mother decided to get involved in Mary Kay Cosmetics about three years ago. She has yet to see a dime's worth of spendable profit. All of her sales proceeds are spent on buying more inventory, thousands of dollars worth of it sitting in a room in their house down in Dunn, North Carolina.

Linda's dad is a retired police sergeant with a good pension. It would be more than enough to live comfortably on if her mother would just cut her losses, sell her inventory, and get out of this MLM scam. But she won't. Like a religious convert she is totally committed to her "business" in spite of the fact that there seems to be no business plan that includes the concept of ever actually turning a profit.

This sort of thing preys upon the gullible and the stupid. Unfortunately there is no law against gullibility and stupidy, so money that should be spent on two beautiful grandchildren is being given to this silly woman to pursue her fantasy of being a Mary Kay millionaire.

FROM A SUCCESSFUL MARY KAY CONSULTANT

I am not quite understanding the fact of not making a profit. In Mary Kay, you buy the product at wholesale and sell it at a retail price of 2 times the wholesale price. Now, excuse me for being confused, but doesn't that mean if you sell $2, you make $1. This woman is obviously trying to build her inventory to work her business. If she needs the money, then she can become the type of consultant who sells something, takes her profit and doesn't order product to replace what she has already sold.

As far as her dream to become a Mary Kay millionaire, she too can be one. This opportunity IS the opportunity of a lifetime for every woman who wants it. It seems there may be a bit of jealously. Mary Kay is not a scam. As far as Linda being committed to her business, that's great. If you too, owned a business, would you want to see it fail? You would also be committed to helping your business thrive and be successful.

These people who are making these assumptions about Mary Kay really amuse me. Why do you want to sit back and run your mouth when you don't even have the training or expertise in that business? It sounds like you are a bit of a negative person. You too could use a Mary Kay career strictly for the therapy.

Successful Mary Kay millionaires......why are they millionaires....not because they sold millions, because they've 'earned(?) millions in commissions off the wholesale orders of people below them. I don't know if they get a cut from the tapes, etc., they produce, but being a MK Millionaire simply means they earned over a million in commission checks.....yes, they are smart women, who wouldn't want to earn money from what someone else does....the thought enticed me so much I went for it til I got a conscience about the high turnover rate. Women are striving to get to "Inner Circle" at seminar.....which is only a high award for the high commission checks.......I fail to see why women are so recognized for getting big commission checks......bait em with prizes which costs money, the staff you must hire costs money....all we hear and see in the Applause magazine is the big commission checks..... I think the pursuit of materialism and the lifestyle of the rich and famous is totally a worldly concept that is taking alot of women in and seducing them and reducing their finances and quality family time. Directors comprise the top 2 percent of MK......Nationals comprise less than that.....SOOOOOOOOOOO ladies....where does that leave the rest of us?????? In the 98% who are making an average of $5,000/yr in sales?????? I am amused at the big hype of women doing great in their debuts making $200-$1700 in sales......well, cut that in half right away cause that's what it cost them....so, their profit might have been $100-850, then they must turnaround and replace the inventory sold....oh oh....now what's left? That doesn't include Section 2 samples, etc, or taxes on the profit.....oops.

From a new consultant....I must be lucky. I have a GREAT Director. She asked me from the beginning what I wanted to do with this business and has listened to me and NOT tried to strong arm me into buying a bunch of inventory. Not to mention, she helped me place my first order and actually steered me away from level 2 items that she knew I wouldn't need. I <3 my director!!
