I have been with MK for 8 months now, at the time I decided to quit my director gave me tough time to obtain the repurchase form. So I "worked hard" to sell what I have on hand, it went pretty. Here's the marketing strategies I tried and my experience on their results:
1. Organize a home spa and makeup group for local "meetup" on the web. Results: - One 10 person mini home spa party, but the hostess insist "no selling", so I charged everyone a fee for the mini home spa. Nobody bought anything. 3 persons were willing to give contacts for free samples.
2. Distribute invitation for open house in my condo building - Only distribute 20 invites and security came and gave me a little lecture and kicked me out of the mailbox room... - 0 out of the 20 showed up at the "open house"
3. Warm Chat for 3 days (try to talk to every girls I met, in elevator, while I walked my dog, the parking lot girls, girls working at grocery stores, at work, etc) - Successfully talked to 5 new girls - One gave her number and name - No booking from her neither on 2 follow up phone call
4. Set up a booth in Laura at a famous hugh local mall (it is a huge boutique cater to working women), let them try the product (satin hand set) on the spot... - 3 hours got 20 contacts (both phone number and address) - 1/3 of the customer walked are willing to try the product - 100% of customers who tried the product leave contacts for free samples and further promotion offers - 100% position feedback for the customer who tried out the product - 1 purchase the product willing to be delivered the next day - 4 wanted to purchase but change their mind because I can't give the product on the spot.
Well, no wonder people pay big rent to get a store in a mall!! What is more effective? Well, however I just realized MK Legal doesn't even allow us to let them try out the product in the mall.
By the way, what is I have my own products and selling for my own brand, isn't that more of a real business than tucking the name "Mary Kay" along while cannot sell the effective way? Effective way in the eye of my director is to "mass recruit" and "large inventory" Is it a real good business opportunity, compare to sweating to starting one from scratch?!

Isn't it funny how many prospective customers you can encounter when you're able to do business in a public place?
Insofar as having difficulty getting the repurchase form from your director, a Sales Director who's obstructing someone from exercising their rights under the consultant product return policy is putting their relationship with Mary Kay at risk by breaching their agreement with Mary Kay. Notwithstanding that, nothing stops an individual consultant from obtaining the repurchase form from the Mary Kay Repurchase Department directly.

I doubt MK would ever "fire" a director for stopping someone from returning inventory. The main reason they DON'T want you to return inventory, is NOT because you can never do MK again (because you can); it's called a "chargeback" - commission they earned and production for the unit are returned and deducted. That's the REAL reason. They will instill fear with "never do MK again"; they will instill obligation "what about your recruiter?? she needs you to move up??"; they will instill guilt "I never thought of you as a quitter"! See, their favorite tactic is putting you in a F.O.G. Fear - Obligation - Guilt so you won't return the inventory and they get charged back.
Those who TRULY care for you are supposed to help you pack up your inventory and help you deplete it however they can assist and that is what corporate expects from the directors to those consultants who decided to take advantage of the buyback.
