I have read several comments regarding Mary Kay cosmetics as well as Mary Kay the company. I will give you my background to help validate my thoughts & opinions here. I graduated with a BBA in Marketing from Texas A&M University. I also minored in French and received an International Business Certification....woo hoo! Gig 'em Aggies! I have been a consultant since March 2002. I have a full time job and I do MK part time. I LOVE IT. My director lives in another state, so I attend weekly meetings here in Houston through an adoptive director. As with any job or any business, there are ups & downs.

There are things that you can and can't do, and there are things that you should and shouldn't do. I came into the company with a large inventory because I planned on working my business full time and selling it fast. You know what? It didn't happen. I too had lots of extra inventory on my shelves collecting dust. Now, you have to ask, "WHY didn't it happen?" That is simply because I did not get out there and work my business like a business. I actually thought people would just come to me! Hellooo!?

There is a saying, "If you treat it like a hobby, it will cost you like a hobby. If you treat it like a business, it will PAY you like a business." There is not one action I've taken in my business that doesn't prove this true.

I am sorry that some of you got burned by starting your own business or being associated with someone starting one. My very best friend was my first recruit, and she ended up sending all her inventory back a year later. She never held one class, never asked anyone to try a sample and never went to one meeting for training. Who's fault is her failure? Mine? Our Directors? Nope. It's was all in her hands, just like your success or failure is in yours. Are we still friends,...yes!

Ladies - we just need to make smart decisions for ourselves. For me, this business is one of them. If you are talking to a consultant / director about joining and you feel she might be pressuring you for her own benefit, attend one of her meetings. Talk to one of her newest recruits who has been in the business about a month. I bet this consultant can tell you how the director is treating her, and give you some insight as to what to expect from this director.

As I stated earlier, I attend meetings as an adoptee. I had to go through 3 directors before I found the adoptive director that worked best for me & with me. Take this into your own hands and get what you want out of it!
