HI Ladies!

This opinion is geared towards the not so happy MK ladies.....I know there are many out there and I am not going to write this to be a hate mail, cause I love the product, but truly had to get away from the business for awhile and take a much needed break emotionally and to step back and think about where I've been the past several months.....As a new director, I found myself constantly seeing everything as Mary Kay and everyONE as a recruit.....it does get tiresome and it's something you and your unit must continually do to sustain the unit......if your unit isn't recruiting, YOU MUST.

I have spent hours/days looking at opinions both good and bad....and I'd like to be objective here and share some FACTS about the business since I see many women looking to the internet on these opinion sites seeking some facts to help them make a decision about their business venture. There are 'quotas' once you become a director......YES "QUOTAS"...in your director's agreement (I failed to read my fine print..guess I should have. It states that if your unit fails to meet the minimum $4,000 a month production requirement for 2 months in a row, you are done, with the exception of a one time only grace period as a new director. I didn't know about this little 'tidbit' til after I became a director....and per my inquiry to the company as to where this is written, they replied, 'it isn't written, it's understood'. So, maybe I need to snatch a copy of the agreement and see if it's there...

Also, it's common knowledge, as I learned in July Seminar from numerous directors (and tapes I received) that after building your unit of 30 (and all of us who went thru DIQ know how hard that can be!).......'that the people that got you there will NOT keep you there'.....so you must continually recruit......statistics reveal that out of those 30, (and mind you, these stats are on training tapes you receive when you become a director)...10 are done, 10 are on their way out and only a third of the remaining 10 will work. I was shocked and discouraged to hear those stats, then later, realized it when my unit was falling apart.

I also asked other directors at Seminar....'what do we do now as a director'.....my answer was to do what I did in DIQ!!!!!! More shock and awe. Soooooo, I guess being told DIQ was the hardest part was not the whole truth. We're always in DIQ as they say AFTER they said 'it's worth it!'

For those of you who units recruiting and growing, that's awesome......however, these statistics are the NORM and that's how Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) companies work. They are set up for many to FAIL!!!!! So, ladies, take heart in that you are not the quitter and loser you've been told you are.......it's a natural disaster of an MLM, if you will....you were a consequence of this set up! If you are in DIQ and you are trying to "DO IT QUICK" in becoming a director, know these facts and consider them very hard....get people who want to work on your teams, choose them wisely and have another DIQ right behind you to help sustain your new unit. In MLM's it's common knowledge that high turnover is the NORM. I found that out, much to my dismay, as a new director, way too late.

MK does not, to my knowledge, supply information on how many Directors lose their positions within the first few months of debut or how many consultants quit or how much product is returned, but just this week (and I updated this Dec 15) I know of 3 women who most probably will be returning inventories of 2400/3600 & approx 3,000 and have been in it less than 6 months! While I understand, from a sales point of view, that those facts may not be what you want to provide to a potential new recruit, FAILURE to provide factual information is deception not to mention stating there are no "quotas" when there clearly are quotas for certain qualifications as well as maintaining 'awards' such as the car.

Also, before you get all full of high hopes when you see copies of large commission checks, realize that there are expenses involved in being a director..........many get assistants and housekeepers at the advice of top directors and then there are training trips (many of them), meetings, dinners, luncheons, prize & trip buying, promotions, meeting room space rent, postage, costs of monthly newsletters, year end prizes, annual suit expense, etc. If you are selling enough product and recruiting new 'stars' every month, you'll be fine, you'll have great commission checks, but as a director, don't mislead your unit by showing them a copy of your check without disclosing your expenses AFTER TAXES.

I started full of dreams, full of zeal, recruiting everyone I know cause I thought they just HAD to do this and being a Christian in a company w/Christian values and being able to talk God thrilled me to death! I ordered inventory, all on my own, small at first, then bigger and then began ordering just to make the next career move or get the next prize promotion........DON'T DO THAT LADIES, you'll live to regret it. I know many who went this route, all on their own, (we're not blaming anyone) and are now full of shame and guilt (least the ones with consciences) and are having to take some time to get over what they did and what tempations they fell into. Many, fine, hardworking women believed the 'dream' and DID GIVE IT THEIR BEST SHOT, but things didn't happen and they quickly became discouraged...it happens, it's real, and it needs to be addressed and talked about........negative as it may be, I want this comment page to serve to bring a little reality to this dream world. ....I had recruited all my customers and wanted to "Do It Quick" and get it over with only to find out I had to do it again and again and again.....UGH.....anyway....

If you find yourself, as a consultant, signing up at the end of the month and being pressured for inventory and flooded with all kinds of prize incentives (they don't keep the prizes ...'bait for orders'...in a 'fishing tackle box' for no reason), watch out because it is the "end of the PRODUCTION month" and "Quotas" to meet "goals" have to be met..... Be advised if you don't already know, that you have the month in which you sign up AND the following month to make an inventory decision and receive the product bonuses, so TAKE YOUR TIME making that decision and talk to other consultants..

There's a saying which states that the last 3 days of the month are "miracle days"!!?? I don't doubt anything God can do, but I can tell you there is alot of hustle and bustle those last three days to meet the 'no quota' criteria and alot happening in the name of miracles!! It's curious that a couple of the busiest days in MK are June 29 & 30.......which just happen to be the LAST TWO DAYS of the Seminar year where everyone is 'qualifying' to 'cross stage' or meet some sort of goal. I was there June 30. I wished I had gotten a call to go outta town or something.....but hey, it was all MY choice and I learned soo much......I grew immensely as a person, so ladies, lick your wounds and move on and learn from the lessons God wanted you to know about materialism, selfish ambition and deceit.

It is my hope that someone can go into this with eyes WIDE OPEN from what they read today. It is not my intention to bash MK or to be bitter, moreso to be 'real'.....(which is a rare thing in this business) with sound advice and to present facts you need to consider before going forward in your MK career.........there are things I miss, my unit and my unit meetings for one and my relationships with some others, but there are definitely parts that I don't ever care to experience again. I MAY do facials in the future as I enjoy those and may sell here and there.....but I don't HAVE TO anymore, and that spells F R E E D O M for me! I admire MK and what she did, but I do not admire what I became capable of nor do I admire many things that are going on. I hope the company realizes that things need to change because unless they do, perhaps they should consider eliminating the "God First" motto.

After spending hours on hours reading about MLM's and reading their sales pitches.....it struck me that that's what it was......it IS A SALES JOB, you must SELL.....why on God's earth are we telling prospective consultants they don't when they DO!!??? These are sales pitches....yes there can be alot of fun and success, yee hah - but you know.......many, in fact, THOUSANDS do not find it and are left in the wake of those successful people.........I began to get a bad conscience about their demise and discouragement and hated moving on to the 'next one' when the 'last one' went away discouraged......that is not success and I will not 'write my paycheck' based on someone else's credit cards or bank loans.

The wholesale system and recognition: I guess it's assumed that everything purchased thru the wholesale system is going to be sold or purchased to replace sold product.........I think there are TONS of women out there who can DISAGREE with this assumption because they have product on their shelves or have returned it...(oh, and many probably already know, but a fact that is always NOT disclosed is that IF YOU EVER RETURN PRODUCT YOU CAN NEVER DO MK AGAIN!)

Prizes are given mostly based on wholesale orders which are only a calculation of the RETAIL VALUE of product ordered + bonus product they receive with the order............it behooves me that they can give prizes for ORDERS alone.......I hope they are not maintaining they are #1 based on the retail value of wholesale orders received......that would definitely be misleading! To my knowledge, the only prizes given to anyone for ACTUAL SALES are to the consultants at unit meetings IF they turn in their weekly accomplishment sheets....so far, I haven't seen an ACTUAL SALES award given at any major event. How SAD! I feel that system really opens a door to just stockpiling product to get to the next level or a prize level or to maintain your car while the consultants out there selling their 'pants off' (pun intended!)ARE THE ONES THAT DESERVE TRULY FREEEEE CARS....And, that's another illusion...speaking of FREE cars......there is NO FREE CAR..as I began to mention earlier, if your unit and yourself earn it, it must be maintained, meaning you and your unit must make a certain amount of production each month, short of that,if your production falls below a certain level, you must co-pay including INSURANCE....(another fact I found out after the fact and cannot find anywhere in writing is that if you co-pay the lease payment, you must also co-pay the INSURANCE)..if it's written somewhere, someone correct me. Then, if you fail to increase your production after you've fallen short or do not have enough active recruits (for Grand AM), you will get an 'option letter' from the company giving you the option to to purchase the car or return it...Grand Prixs and Cadillacs have a quarterly quota.

If you are lucky, have a buzzing unit, and don't have to co-pay, you will be blessed with a 1099 at the end of the year reporting the dollar equivalent for the car which you have to pay taxes on. Multiply $375(Grand Am), $500(Gr Prx), $900(Cad) x 12, and that is what will be reported to you as misc income on your 1099!....so make sure you get plenty of other tax deductions to offset that income! FREE CAR....OH Puhhhlease??????? Then, after a period, for the Grand Prix and Cadillac's, you must REQUALIFY all over again after only 6 quarters, a year and a half! Go get some recruits!

At this point, I am disillusioned about the dream.

I have finally recovered from the physical stress symptoms I've had for the past few months which came about at the THOUGHT of perpetual recruiting and entering the Icy Cold Market of women who consistently reject our 'offer of a lifetime' as well as the shame for spending so much on inventory and other things as well......I was shocked at what I was doing in the pursuit of materialism......so what's the big deal about leading a life like the 'rich and famous'.....God says it will be hard for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven....so why would I want that????! I found myself neglecting my home, my husband and things I normally like to do......and yip, I am ok with cleaning toilets...a director once said 'no one will remember your cleaning the toilets', but you know what....Jesus washed feet and people remember that. I've never encountered stress like this nor experienced the level of bondage I felt at just the thought of having to talk to everyone 3 ft around me about the MK opportunity as I said before. I am no longer a director and didn't do much to try to sustain the unit.....I loved my girls and thought we had a great time, but the costs became toooooo high.......and with any sound business opportunity, you MUST count the costs........

I was grateful to have found and shared with some x-directors our TRUE FEELINGS...it was so REFRESHING to be able to be open and speak the truth about how we felt without being accused of being negative, doubtful, faithless or a QUITTER.......most people, healthy people, quit something that is not good for them, and yes ladies, in some cases being a quitter is a good thing.......quit smoking, quit drinking, quit stressing your body to the max to pursue recognition.........being real with those women and corresponding with some of the honest women on these websites has been very therapeutic.

Here's a couple websites I'd like to share....for those consultants and directors wanting some new fresh ideas....type in Unitnet.com .....Darlene Rutledge's site is awesome! Very informative....enter her site and click on the 'training' section......each unit has a training section, but as far as I've looked, hers is very informative.....so if you are struggling with your business and ideas this holiday.....look at it.

For those who have not 'made it' in this business (like me) and are needing some true comfort.........check www.pyramidschemealert.com.....or simply type in the words ... pyramid schemes ... on google and click the Pyramid Scheme Alert site.......No, Mary Kay is not listed, and yes, they say they are not, but beyond those technicalities.......there are some sections of this website I found to be VERY comforting and validating to my emotions........I've been on an up and down roller coaster ride ever since I decided to move into management and I wish I could turn back time a few months, truly. However, I've learned some hard lessons and wanted to inform those who are thinking about a career and perhaps offer some comfort to those who have not succeeded as a director or consultant sitting on thousands of inventory.

Again, type in: pyramid schemes using Google search, you'll see a site called Pyramid Scheme Alert click that one (or click here: http://www.pyramidschemealert.org/ ) ....on google, it's the FIRST site (most visited probably!) ....should be a big black triangle, enter site......then click on 'resources' then 'articles' and flip thru the Lies about MLM's..........so many of those things reveal exactly what I have felt for so many months........thank God for validation!!!!!!

Ladies, we are STILL AWESOME, incredible women who may have just plain ol run outta people to recruit, or didn't want to spend the rest of our waking moments recruiting.......and got sick of all the EXPENSES INVOLVED in running our businesses and you know????? Leading a 'simple life' may be more glamorous than all the glamor in the world....thanks Mary Kay for your awesome products and ladies remember what Proverbs 31:30 says......."Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised!

Maybe the "something more" we were looking for was right under our noses all the time! Have fun cleaning your toilets! Least you'll be home!

I have got to respond to this! I have posted a few times before on here and my name is Wendy Turnidge and I am a Sales Director with Mary Kay and have been for 3 years December 1st. I printed out this entire opinion from Opinion 67 because she has made some great mistakes in some of the things she stated. I have not been one of these people who did it quick and made it BIG -per say-. I am however quite comfortable and happy with what I am doing and it IS because I chose to run my business by putting the feelings of my customers and consultants first! I have earned the use of 3 cars (2 Grand Am's and 1 Grand Prix) and am about to spin off a Director next month. I DID NOT do this by recruiting everyone I knew or sold to -OR- by cohersing my gals into large inventories.

Laura here: Just because YOU are different doesn't mean I made big mistakes presenting these truths. The things I stated are TRUE for many, many women.....YOUR STORY is not in question here.

First and foremost, I hold my appointments and sell the products and THIS is what gets things rolling in your business. I try to see 15-25 new faces each month and that means I am doing either facials or classes and of course, they are free. I give my gals a good time because I LOVE selling and pampering. If I didn't like to do those things, this business would be a struggle. I didn't think I would ever enjoy doing this full time but I learned to love it and love my customers. I just ran a sale over the last 2 days for my customers and sold $1,300 so far!!! Do you think I am enjoying what I am doing?!?

Laura here:......so from that $1300....you can deduct 650 for cost, so how much profit did you get after your discount? Then you'll have to pay taxes on that profit...so what then?

If you hear unhappiness from Mary Kay consultants, it's probably because they weren't able to get the selling thing down. I think there's hope if they seek it out. If not from their Director, from another Consultant who is selling alot or from another Director.

Laura here: MK women get discouraged, ALL MK women do at one time or another....because few see these big profits we are told about.

I haven't approached a single customer about selling Mary Kay in months...yes MONTHS! I give them a good time, they see me having fun and I am asked about this business! You see ladies, when YOU are happy and your customers see you are happy...they want to know more about what you are so happy about! I am a Born Again Christian as well and this business also allows me to share the Christian Values that Mary Kay began this company with.

I had 2 of my customers, JUST YESTERDAY, bring up the business to me!!! This was when I chose to go deliver the orders. My customers usually pick them up or I ship them but I decided to take an evening ride with my husband and we made deliveries for a few hours. My 2 customers both said almost the same thing, "you really look like you enjoy doing what you are doing and it's so awesome that you got 3 cars!" and then they both inquired about getting started. Guess what I did...I answered their questions and let them know that I would be happy to talk to them more and walked out their door. I feel that if they want to do it, they will call me. If I really feel a calling to get a hold of them, I will follow up but I leave it in God's hands.

When I was in DIQ, I feel the Lord truly blessed me. I had most of my team members come to me! They asked ME at the appointments! I think this is when you really know that Directorship is right for you because it ends up just happening! Yes it did just happen for me and that's no lie, I am not the type to mislead! I think that it's the INDIVIDUALS in this company that ruin the name for all of us. The people who are saying that they have "done this, or done that" or "looked at everyone as a recruit"...that DOES NOT mean that's how all the rest of us are.

If I get a new customer, here's what I say to her, "I know I don't like to be bothered so I would like you to tell me if you are they type who wants to be contacted every month, every 2 months, 3 months or just want to call me when you need something". They usually are honest and when they say, "I will call you" then I tell them that I prefer it to be that way because then I know that I am not bothering them. I tell them that I will put them on the Preferred Customer Program (if they are okay with that), I run an email sale every 1 1/2-3 months and give a 20% discount the entire month of their Birthday PLUS I have 2 big sales/year that they will get notification of through the mail...I have a STRONG customer base. If I ask them 1x about the business or the possiblity of becoming personal use because I may have seen something within them that prompted me to ask and they say No, then it's no and I service them just the same. You see this business IS about sharing the Opportunity but it is NOT about YOUR OWN selfish intentions.

If some people post on this site, complaining that they ended up doing that...then that was their fault or where they allowed themselves to end up. You HAVE to constantly be aware of the fine line when you are dealing with people. The fine line is the one that makes YOU the "seller" a danger if you begin to lie, steal, cheat, mislead, etc... GOD IS FIRST in Mary Kay because she was very wise and knew whether it's this business, your work, school, in your family, WE ALL are a danger because we ALL are sinners! Seeing how no one is perfect, do you think Mary Kay would be perfect? Is a congregation of a church perfect? I think that because Mary Kay Ash CHOSE to incorporate God, people feel they have the right to criticize this company when things are said or done by IMPERFECT people. I am NOT perfect and will not be perfect until I go home to my Lord and Saviour BUT I CAN run my business to the best of my ability and put the needs and feelings of people first!

Enough said about that...let's talk briefly about the errors that I read in Opinion 67 and I may not get to all of them. Car: YES you can LOSE your car...of course!!! Why in God's green earth would Mary Kay allow us to keep a car if we quit working! ANY job you could get would do that and Mary Kay is NO different. The second you know you are On Target for the car, there is information sent to you AND it's Online AND in the Advance brochure. For goodness sake it's on our literature that we show to our prospects! It SHOWS the quarterly requirements. I don't think anyone should act surprised, shocked or be embarassed about this...it assures us and our team/unit that we will continue to work and lead by example. Human nature is LAZY and if we just sat back and could stop working that WOULD make us a true MLM, which we ARE NOT. I may not have time to get into the fine details of that but there are LEGAL documents that prove this. I had to get proof so my financial planner, who spent a whopping $700/qtr. on MK from me, could join for Personal Use. This business COULD NOT be an MLM for her to join because of the agreement she signed for her employer when she began working for them and the legal documentation that we had to get proved that Mary Kay was NOT a MLM. If you don't know the difference, please contact me. This is a good thing to know when you are in this business.

There is a performance account that you have when you win the car (Grand Am). This performance account stores up "points" (if you will) each month you go over the required amount. If you fall below, then it takes from the account. If you have a Zero balance in the account, then you get a copayment and the Insurance is DIRT CHEAP...$35-65/month! I have NEVER had to make a copayment so I am unsure about an Insurance Co-Payment but I do know it's very cheap. What's the incentive if you miss and have to pay a copayment? Get to work and do better next month! Here's another thing that Opinion 67 forgot to mention...we DO NOT have to take the car and I have NEVER taken a Car! I have taken CASH because I have a very nice car! I have never had to make a copayment, therefore have always received my $350/mo for the Grand Am that now pays $375 (Mary Kay raised it!) and currently get $500/month for the Grand Prix and that has since been raised to $525!

Where do you find a company that will INCREASE what they are already doing/paying!?!

(This is Laura......that income is STILL reported on a 1099 and I believe I addressed that )
(This is Wendy....I don't understand how the 1099 is even an issue because Mary Kay could not legally give us a car or the money from a car without it being reported to the IRS. If they did, all these opinions would be a non issue very soon because MK would be shut down or at least in big time trouble with the IRS. By the time you earn a car you have so many tax deductions for your business that most of it is offset. It's when you get the Grand Prix and closer to the Cadillac that you actually start to pay in Quarterly for your taxes just in case you end up owing it at the end of the year. Then you just save part/all of the car payment that MK gives you to pay in Quarterly. I have never been burned on taxes by my car/cash option, it's on there but it's never hurt me yet. My tax fellow does over 300 Mary Kay taxes per year including Arlene Lenarz's and he knows all the deductions that we can take, inside and out. If you want to talk to him, I would be happy to refer you to him. He is smitten with our business!
(This is Laura.......my point of the 1099 is to advise that the CAR IS NOT FREE as they tell you........many women are led to believe they WIN A FREE CAR, they are led astray up front, they think they qualify for it, and bam, it's the reward, no more needs to be done, YES, it's published, and YES, they should check it out, but my point is, NO ONE should say it's FREE when it's NOT.)

Directorship: You do need 30 active and that includes you. A few years back, Mary Kay decided to change the career path and make it even easier to become a Director and help consultants take their focus off the car and focus on Management. It used to be that you had to earn the car first, now you can be a Director and earn the car at the same time. So you become a Director and have 30 Unit Members by HONESTLY presenting this business...but you end up missing production a few times...Opinion 67 is WRONG because Mary Kay lets us miss and miss and miss AS LONG AS YOU CALL SALES DEVELOPMENT AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!!!!!!! Now, does that mean they will let it go on forever? No!

I missed for 2 months and because I did well the other months and had my performance account, my car was Okay but I was worried (because I was getting married and went on my honeymoon and just got distracted and missed production) that Mary Kay may take my Directorship. I called Mike Strong who is in Emerald Sales Development and HE told ME that I should not worry that I missed 2 months and that life happens, just try harder next month and keep in touch! I was SO IMPRESSED and felt so relieved and I went on and had my best month, up to that point, the next month!

(This is Laura.......I sure as heck wish I could have gotten one of those nice letters to encourage me and let me try yet another month as a new director who had received NO training.....my training was scheduled Late October - which I cancelled cause I couldn't afford to go and I had decided to hang it up anyway - and I debuted in July.......as it was, I got the letter that boldly stated 2 months in a row is a NO NO. Perhaps with directors who are like Wendy and have proven records, it's different, but it wasn't in my case and I am not the only one........my unit did over 24,000 in 4 months, but I didn't get the break you did......guess Mary Kay is guilty of Favoritism??????)
Expenses as a Director: Here the REAL truth, and I don't know how long Opinion 67 was a Director but here's the "expenses" that I have. Meetings: Zilch! You can use a church or apartment complex, your home, etc... I use the activity room of a Senior Residence and it's GORGEOUS...we are so lucky! They do it as a way to service the community. So my meeting room is $0. I do not have a housekeeper and I have thought of getting one because after selling $1,000/week, I think I deserve it. We are taught that YOUR SALES pay for your assistant or housekeeper. My assistant is my husband because it's a tax deduction and when your spouse works for you, you can deduct ALL family Medical expenses and some other things. My other assistant is 15 and she gets $5/hour and is thrilled. I give her 50% off her products too and it's a good thing! Dinners/Lunches: I don't understand this one. I would need clarification. I am in a Director Association and we pay nothing to be in it and those are the only dinners/lunches I have been to. Newsletter: $30/month and it's WELL worth me paying my college student gal to do it. I lose money doing it and this way she gets a little something and I get to make $$ holding appointments. Travel: Seminar & Leadership...these are both optional as is everything in Mary Kay BUT when I attend, I come back and become more productive. First of all it's a tax write off, secondly with the exception of airfare we room together so we spend maybe $90-120 for 3-4 days and most the meals are provided in our registration which is $130-170. Yes, it comes from us but if you really look at most business Seminars, they are well over $150 and I've heard up to $700! I wouldn't go if I couldn't afford to go and that's the truth but my sales ALWAYS pay for my Seminars and AGAIN they are a tax write off. You learn so much from them and it's a shame if you can't go but it really is your choice. Postage: I don't use that much postage to even complain about it. I spend maybe $160 every quarter on postage and I find that good. Suit: Our suits are again, tax deductible but when we order them by a certain time we save 20% and it costs around $240...I am not the clothes buying type but these are really nice suits. I would never spend $240 on a suit but it's ALL I wear to the meetings/functions all throughout the year. The nice thing is that the $$ comes out of my commission checks if I choose that option over a period of 3 months. So it's roughly $80/month and again, tax deductible! When I was a nurse, I bought my attire and deducted it on my taxes and I went through those highly priced uniforms quicker.

Laura here; I am not talking out my butt about this stuff......these expenses in my area are real and I do not appreciate being made out to be a liar. Again , just because it is NOT your circumstances DOES NOT mean it does not exist.

My commission checks and sales for a month are pretty close to the same. I sell around $3-4,000 and my commission checks are around $3,500-4,800. I order about $1,200/month to restock my store. My expenses are quite low and my income is wonderful. I just started making quarterly payments into taxes this year because all the previous year I have had so many tax deductions and now I am getting to the point where my income is exceeding my deductions.

Laura here...so, the 3-4,000 in product you sell costed how much?? 1,500-2,000 wholesale. So then you order another 1,200 on top of that and that cuts it down to 300-800 profit...were any sales involved???? And, as soon as you spin off your new director, your commission checks will be cut drastically then you have to build a unit again. So, take the commission checks less the expense of your employees and everything else and let us know exactly what you made so we can know how much successful directors take home after all the expenses and taxes........I have yet to see a bottom line from anyone about this.

I have seen gals come into Mary Kay and fade away and it hurts my heart, especially when they are in my unit. I do all I can do for them and with them to make them successful. Some people come in at the wrong time and there would have been no way to know that and some come in and take their time and become successful (that was me) and others do it quick. You cannot compare yourself to anyone! You are YOU and YOU have your own obstacles to overcome and personal growth issues to overcome.

All I can say is that this business is certainly not for everyone. I think $100 is not that much to give it a shot but I will agree with many others that YOU have to begin your business the way YOU want to. Don't EVER feel pressured...there should be no pressure. Let me also add something that no one else has mentioned...including Opinion 67...there is a 90% buyback guarantee but what no one is telling you is that there is another option that goes beyond the first year. You have 1 year to get 90% but you DO get a percentage back if you go over your year. It is correct that you can never sell MK again but everyone I have ever spoken to has already been told that. I don't know all the details about the other option but you can call Mary Kay and they will tell you. This company IS here to help you and they will bend backwards for you. They have nothing to hide. I have talked to Legal and Sales Development and they are quite aware that there are individuals out there who are misrepresenting the company or not giving all the facts. Call Mary Kay Corporate when in doubt and talk to someone there.

This company has a heart of gold and they would be sick to know that all this commotion is going on. PLEASE don't listen to all that is said on here but go straight to the source. I am willing to be a source of information for you. I do run a Unit of 105 and my grandmother does live with me and I am her caregiver so the best way to contact me is by phone (612) 588-1569. Otherwise, email takes a little longer but I will do my best.

A very proud and excited Sales Director!

Response to my edit........... As I said, this mail is for the NOT SO HAPPY MK LADIES left to feel useless. I HATE when they say "WE DIDN'T WORK OUR BUSINESS".........UGH!!!!!! Ladies, NEVER take that to heart.........as Wendy says, people fail, but to attribute that to 100% of the person's fault is WRONG.

Wendy is the example of the great directors I was talking about in my mail.......but with every organization...........THERE ARE BAD APPLES and my experiences were true......I could go into so much more detail, but I want to spare those involved........

There is a dark, dark side to this business where over zealous directors DO pressure women and that is a plain ol FACT............

Regarding Wendy's assessment of my facts.........I received a letter stating IN BOLD PRINT, that failure to meet production 2 months in a row is a VIOLATION OF MY DIRECTOR"S AGREEMENT and that my grace month was a ONE TIME Deal. The company is nice and will work with you, that's true, but it wasn't my experience nor many others'. Wendy is speaking for herself and is a fine example of what should be, but this is not the case for most and this is what I address.

Wendy response: I am not speaking just for myself. In one of these posts I referred to 2 Directors, 1 a friend who I do my meetings with and another my recruiter. They both have missed up to 3 months straight and yes a form letter comes but it's just a form letter. I threw mine away a long time ago but I am certain it tells us to contact them. The other thing about these letters is that they praise you and tell you that they know you can do it. They are not mean letters but warning letters that you missed and it reiterates what our responsibility is as a Director. Myself and the one Director who missed have always been so amazed at how nice they are in these letters and how praising and uplifting of what they know you can do because you obvioulsly did it once already!
I believe I wrote in my communication that the car requirements are in publications, however, co-paying the insurance IS NOT WRITTEN anywhere, and by the companies' own admission, neither is the detail about missing 2 months of production as a director.

Wendy is one of the rare directors who still sells, has customers, etc., but what she needs to realize is not all directors are as upright as her and that's what I am seeking to address to women who were under such directorships or who have become such directors not so honest with their business or find themselves spending more than they make.......THAT IS REALITY WENDY, I AM SORRY TO POP YOUR BUBBLE, BUT ALL IN MK IS NOT GLITTER AND GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!! SORRY TO SHOW YOU THE REALITY, BUT IT IS!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy: Read my posts, I am well aware that not all is perfect in Mary Kay. If it were, I would be in heaven...right? I have had my moments of aggravation and frustration too with my customers, consultants and other Directors. I have no bubble because I find myself to be one of the most realistic people in this business. I am VERY realistic with my consultants and they know EXACTLY what to expect at each level. As far as your statement below, too bad you see those of us experiencing good things in MK and sharing it as a way to benefit ourselves. I am not going to get into a heated debate over this whole issue. I said my part and I hope it helps someone. I have talked to and worked with several consultants who have read my posts and I will never benefit BUT I am totally okay with that. It's the Go-Give, Golden Rule thing to do and I would hope someone would do the same for me if I needed it.

I am grateful for sites such as this so that we can 'get real'...........it's wonderful hearing from someone successful, but sometimes, I feel a subliminal rescue type recruiting message going on in some of these opinion sites...........if that's true, what a shame. The reason I make this statement is that not on many opinion sites besides this one, and there are many, women are recruiting.......that's a fact......no personal attack intended here, just sharing what facts I know.

Not everything goes as well as for Wendy and other's groups and that is a sad reality which I would like to address in my opinions, so here we are and I reiterate my message to you ladies made to feel like failures.......no it may not have been for you.........but even if it was, and you didn't make it, KNOW THIS.........YOU ARE STILL AN INCREDIBLE PERSON AND JUST BECAUSE YOUR WILLINGNESS NOT TO MAKE EVERYONE INTO A RECRUIT CAUSES YOU TO 'QUIT', SO BE IT, you will sustain your friendships. Not every failure, including loss of the car is attributable to YOU NOT WORKING........I TAKE GREAT EXCEPTION TO THAT AND really get upset when people are guilted out by that attitude.

If you are successful, people are coming to you like they are Wendy and her unit, YAY!!!, that's great, don't have a problem with that, that's what I applaud also, but her case is not everyone's case and she must understand that.

I will not correct my assessment of expenses because I see it first hand, I've heard from many, many directors in the boat as I described and in other boats other than Wendys'.....so Wendy, please let us be free to express our concerns regarding the realities of the uglies in this business in an effort to inform, advise and comfort those not experiencing your blessings. As a born again Christian, you should appreciate the TRUTH, both good and bad. Yes, MK started the business upright with great values, but as with any church or any organization........Satan can get in there big time as he has in MK too.

(Wendy here again, I don't dispute bills/expenses/reality but I do offer my assitance and ideas for making this business run smoother. I know the truth and Christianity has very little to do with being able to see both sides and unfortunately not everyone is going to be blessed with a good Director and Unit. This forum board is a good way so people know that they are not alone but I also hope that those of us who haven't experienced the "bad" as much as others can offer a helping hand! As far as Satan goes, he's gotten into the entire world big time and things are not and won't ever be as they were when we were children. At this point all anyone can do about the whole Satan issue is to pray and strengthen their relationship with Christ. God Bless!)
