Wendy: I have my answer to posting on this board...get up at 5 AM...no, bad idea :-) I have an early teleconference today so I've been quietly typing in the background.

I found something that goes to show that there may be some changes in the "Independent Contractor Rules" over the next several years. If so, I can say one thing I would love to see happen is Health Insurance. Apparently MK has had it before but it's very expensive and especially for such a large group of women. I've heard they consider that we have routine OBGYN exams, child birth, of course then kids expenses, mammograms, hysterectomies, laperoscopies, etc...

My husband is a Computer Tech contractor and he gets NO Health Insurance so we pay for it independently and with both our pre-existing conditions, it's not cheap. It's a tax write off but that doesn't mean it's cheap. At least I didn't have it at my previous career either so going full time in MK meant I didn't give up anything.

Anyways, my husband and I were talking about this whole subject and he brought up a similar lawsuit. It's a website detailing the very acknowledged Microsoft lawsuit that I had forgotten about. Go to google and type in 'Microsoft Independent Contractor Lawsuit', it's the 5th one down.

A former contracting company that he worked for 3 years ago also sued Microsoft and won but the result was that General Mills got wind and as soon as the contract renewal came up for my husbands company, General Mills declined and the company suffered which resulted in my husband losing his job last year. He was off for 10 mos but is with a different company now.

I also read somewhere that there are other companies (Realty businesses for example) that were biting their nails waiting to hear how our lawsuit turned out because it can affect so many businesses. Was it really the first lawsuit like that? I read that somewhere else? I guess nothing happens without a good reason so I really anticipate the future to see what happens as a result of all this. I am still rootin' for Health Insurance! ~Wendy
