I was approached by the human resources manager where I work, and I work a part-time job. She took advantage of the fact that she could access my income information, and then came the sales pitch, the claim that I could write Mary Kay off on my taxes as a business, and I could get a credit of some sort to the tune of $450.00 per paycheck, and blah, blah.
I then listened in on one of the meetings, which seemed rather rehearsed, and her Director explained to me that I did not have to invest ANY money to start, then it was $100.00 and so on and so on.
After reading the message boards here, I have decided not to take delivery of the products my Recruiter ordered for me, as she ordered them with my consent, my consent to a $100.00 investment, then she called and explained I owe her $340.00 for four hundred dollars worth of inventory. If the products are wholesale, why do I owe $340.00, which I never consented to, for $400.00 worth of products, and does'nt she receive a free product for the order??
I understand that this is a business that you can make successful if you are in the right place in your life, though I can in no way appreciate Selfish Salespeople who are not at all concerned with the well being of their recruits, only to meet quotas, as she is due for her new car.
This, unfortunately is a direct reflection upon the company itself and Mary Kay should become more involved with their 800,000 or so recruits, set guidelines which are enforceable, OR go through a more streamlined recruiting process to determine the goals and ambitions of those they wish to make "Directors".

Wendy here: I just emailed you. PLEASE call corporate on this one! That is against her contract and they need to know. There is no way for them to know unless this is brought to their attention. As a Director, I am suppose to tell them but as I said in the email, I don't know you or her so I cannot do a thing. If she did this to you, you have to imagine she will do it to someone else. That's my advice. I don't like those kind of things and I am sorry that happened to you. She will not make it in this business if she is like that, I know that doesn't help much but it's almost always the case. It's like building a house on sand. I'm sorry again. Wendy
Hi Candra! Laura Ryan here........unfortunately, you have encountered the exact thing that goes rampid in this business, it isn't right, but it goes on to the extent that many directors who condone it (in secrecy of course) act shocked when they hear a consultant does this. What happens is they are trying to get recruits 'active' to 'achieve' this or that goal......Getting them 'active' requires a $200 wholesale order being placed. What your recruiter did was to use her funds to purchase your case ($100) PLUS placing a $200 wholesale order.......Total.....$300 plus tax on the retail value of the wholesale order........could be the $40......so that's $340. $200 wholesale = 400 retail.
Since you gave her permission to use her number, that's what she did to get you in and active as a consultant to achieve her car goal. It's hard for the company to check on every order placed and there is an assumed trust that consultants are doing right, but, since MK went on-line ordering, there's been a 'wave' of growth in the company.....unfortunately, a 'wave' of cheating goes on too. Selfish ambition runs rampid in any MLM business because the 'dream' preached to attain prizes and lifestyles entices those who are materialistic at heart. Not everyone you encounter in these businesses (I am not talking only of MK)has a Christian conscience, therefore, the type of activity you came across does not affect them and it will continue (in secrecy) until the company gets enough complaints and begins checking more thoroughly. Even if they do begin that tedious chore, there will still be those who 'coach' their consultants to 'coach' those whose numbers they have used to lie about whose funds were used. Yet those same people still flip emails about God and integrity..........oh my my. The only thing any of us can hope for, those who truly follow God, is knowing that we will all have to answer to God on judgement day for what we do and so will they.
You are wise to NOT accept that order and to advise the company of what you encountered. As far as some sort of credit per week?????? unheard of, don't know what she's talking about.......I would also advise her boss at your place of employment if your job will not be in jeapordy.
