Very interesting and potentially helpful listing for others considering signing up. I plunked down lots of money based on all kinds of inflated promises from someone I trusted, AND based on the 12 month return option.... but when it came time to consider the return, that's when the fine print kicks in. Anything they have ever "given" you... any prize or incentive or free product that came with a big order... gets deducted from your refund - and I think at RETAIL cost! I had a couple of thousand dollars in inventory, and if I'd returned it would have maybe recouped a couple hundred. I agree with everything you said; great products, LOUSY recruitment techniques!

Thanks for sharing!

So sorry to hear of your experience, and especially so in view of the substantial number of similar accounts found on various forums and message boards devoted to matters MK: clearly, from the numbers, these recruitment fiascoes are not isolated incidents, solely owing to poor conduct on the part of a "few bad apples" among the recruiters/directors. On the contrary, as I suggested in opinion 89, and supported by both the facts and these many reports, there is a fundamental flaw in the MK selling structure.

There seems to be nearly universal agreement that, for the most part, the products are of good quality - perhaps, in some cases, even exceptional - and, overall, are sold at a fair and competitive price point. Many consultants and directors who have decided to quit MK, disillusioned as they are, and financially and personally badly bruised by their experience, still often say that they continue to value and prefer the products, very likely intend to continue personally to use them; and, (many) would even like to continue to make them available to clients, but they feel too painfully abused by the recruiting and unit management system to maintain any working relationship with the company.

Wow. Is anyone at corporate listening, or reading? The foregoing details a serious breakdown between the company and many of its representatives, and such complaints are ubiquitous on the several relevant forums and boards. Misrepresenting an investment and/or business opportunity is at best unethical, and some of the recruiting conduct reported here and elsewhere is little more than an unconscionable and egregious con, and constitutes predatory practice, seeking to take advantage of persons who are naive in business matters, and emotionally and financially vulnerable.

This ought to be cleaned up, and pronto: if MK corporate has confidence in its product, truly seeks to "put God [or, at least, decency in business practice] first," and is dedicated to the proposition that women deserve a good opportunity and a fair shake, then it looks to be long past time to do some serious housecleaning in methods and management.

If MK products cannot profitably be sold ethically, in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, through the existing structure, then the structure must be revised and improved. ASAP. And the company would do well to talk to those who have been "burned," to get some insight about what's actually happening "in the field," and how best to fix what was wrong to begin with, and what once worked but is now broken. And maybe, in the process, repair some of the very real damage that has been, and continues to be, done to the MK public image.

I've seen many "true believers" on these boards cruelly, or condescendingly, denigrate those who report experiences such as yours, and I would remind everyone that cosmetic production and sales is not a religion; that all philosophies of business practice are practical philosophies, subject to the test of measurable results, and real outcomes: i.e. do they work? However good something sounds in theory, if it doesn't work in the real world, it must be adjusted and revised until it does, or scrapped to make way for something better. That's all there is to it.

Again, I am so very sorry for your bad experience with MK, and hope that any damage you have suffered will soon be repaired ... and, as a very new consultant, myself, I very much take to heart your account of misfortune, and will persist in going forward only very, very slowly, to minimize the risk until and unless I begin to see a stable clientele and cash flow develop. Thank you for your open and honest remarks.
