Here's the deal... my wife occasionally made contributions to MADD. When they wanted to call and request more money, I would often answer the phone.
The caller would ask to speak to her, and I asked who was calling.
The answer was always "Ashley" or some other first name. It wasn't "Ashley from Mothers Against Drunk Driving", just "Ashley". Knowing that my wife didn't have any friends by this name, I asked what organization the caller was with, and the answer was that this was just a "courtesy call" to thank her for her donation.
This was the second lie of the call, because it wasn't really a "thank you" call, but just an excuse to ask for more money.
These are not legitimate tactics for a legitimate charity. They're just sleazy practices that reflect poorly on their organization.
I'm not the only one who's become irritated by MADD's use of telemarketing:
How much money from these telemarketing calls goes to MADD?
