Scam Defenders

Occasionally I come across a person disputing the fraudulent, deceptive, or otherwise slimy nature of a scam. While reasonable people may have different opinions as to the degree of scamminess involved, a common factor in most of the "rebuttals" listed below is that the complete blame is placed on the victim of the bogus business operation.

BFTCLB Shoppers Club First Freedom Package: a series of messages from "Michael" about this so-called credit card... there's no way to know if all these Michael's are the same person.

- 11/25/2001: no further updates from Michael yet... though an apparent turnaround in position by Michael, don't count on getting refunds from operations like BTFCLB ... enough persistence may enable you to succeed in some cases, but may not be successful in others... and who really wants to get into a situation where they have to spend so much effort just to try to get back to where you started.

Credicorp Gold Card (like BFTCLB, this is part of Rockwell Holdings): rebuttal to complaint about deceptive mailing.

- 2/23/2000: Is this article really a case of bad journalism or is it properly maintaining one's objectivity? The article is a consumer column, and while it would be nice for the reporter to have enough of a legal background to be able to appropriately comment on erroneous statements made by a government official, the bottom line of this column is that there's no legal theory that would prohibit the deceptive business practices described in the article. Sorry, Washington Post, but you are a Scam Defender.
